I have to tell you, I had an awesome time at Bouchercon in Cleveland! I got to hang out with my amazing agent, Josh Getzler, and got to know some of his terrific clients. I got to meet some of the fine folks at Thomas & Mercer, the sister mystery imprint to 47North, which will be publishing my Fangborn novel, Seven Kinds of Hell next March. And my Anna Hoyt story, "Disarming," won the both the Anthony and Macavity Awards! The story was up against some very stiff competition, and I was thrilled to death. I also had the unique experience of making a thank-you speech at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
November was a very busy month for short stories! A new Emma Fielding story, "Mischief in Mesopotamia," was published in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine. TWO Fangborn stories came out: One was in January/February 2013 issue of Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, and that was called "Finals," featuring a young Gerry and Claudia Steuben. And "Pattern Recognition," also featuring the Steubens, was in the anthology, Murder and Mayhem in Muskego, a volume to support the terrific mystery weekend of the same name. MMM features great writers like Megan Abbott, Gary Phillips, Kat Richardson, Greg Rucka, Zoe Sharp, and more!
There were also some very nice reprints of stories: "The Night Things Changed" was included in the SF/F holiday collection, Season of Wonder, with stories by Harlan Ellison, Ellen Kushner, Charles de Lint, and Connie Willis. And my first Anna Hoyt story, "Femme Sole," was included as bonus material in the Kindle edition of Boston Noir 2: The Classics, with stories by Dennis Lehane, Linda Barnes, Chuck Hogan, Joyce Carol Oates, and more.
I've just received ARCs for Seven Kinds of Hell shortly--that's "advance readers copies," and it means the launch is only a few months away. You can preorder by clicking here.
There will be a lot of travel next year, so I hope to see some of you in person! My website will have my schedule for next year very shortly.
Thank you, friends, for making 2012 such a wonderful year! I wish you all the best in 2013.
P.S. Still need a last minute gift for someone special? May I suggest a donation to Heifer International? A cool way to do that is with Patrick Rothfuss' Worldbuilders project, which gives you a chance to win (or bid on) excellent prizes, and all the proceeds go to Heifer!
