Just barely awake after Bouchercon in Cleveland, but, boy, what a ride! I'm delighted to tell you that "Disarming," an Anna Hoyt story in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, took home the Macavity and the Anthony for Best Short Story. You can see the nominees for the Macavity here, and the Anthony here. It was made all the more wonderful because my friend Charlaine Harris also won both awards for The Sookie Stackhouse Companion!
Opening Ceremonies, and the presentation of the Macavity, Barry, and Dilys Awards were at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Not what I was expecting--but very shiny at night! Note all the custom-painted guitars in front.

I like neon! Inside, the stage and the podium for the opening ceremonies. I never expected to give an acceptance speech at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...but I wore my purple suede stilettos anyway. It seemed the right thing to do.

Panels: I was on the "Inspirations" panel, to discuss where some of the ideas in our writing comes from--that was with Laurie R. King, S.J. Rozan, Ed Lin, Toni Kelner, and Zoe Sharp, who was sitting in for Sean Chercover. Below, one of my favorite panels of the weekend, on how Sherlock Holmes influences fiction today, with Laurie King, Dan Stashower, Michael Robertson, Les Klinger, Dan Andriacco, and Sara Paretsky.
I got to hang with the Thomas & Mercer crowd at their dinner (T&M is a sister imprint to 47North, which will be publishing my Fangborn novel Seven Kinds of Hell in March). Below, l-r, we have Andy Bartlett, and L.J. Sellers, with Sean Chercover, Blake Crouch, and Tom Schreck.
The Anthony Awards were in a huge ballroom. Fortunately, with the power of texting, I was able to find my agent Josh Getzler and we could bite our nails together.

And also got to sit with Charlaine Harris, Toni Kelner, and Paula Woldan, who are the best ever. It was a very happy couple of rows! I promise, as soon as I find out where my phone hid them, to post pictures of both awards.
Thanks everyone for a SPLENDID weekend!
